Meaning of the Pentecost Icon | Print |

Listen to Rosemary's PENTECOST reflection

We have lived with this icon for several years. It has become a part of us and we a part of its Holy Mystery.

We enter into the "timeless Pentecost" contemplation

Gazing at this Pentecost icon… Mary is seated with the disciples
in the UPPER ROOM and she has one hand inviting us to come in
the doorway and stay awhile and …
with the other hand,
she seems to be directing us to
be still,
be silent,
be listening…

The 12 disciples reflect the variety of personalities that make up
the Body of Christ
and indicate that there will be a unique way
for each one of us
to express the life of the Spirit we receive.

When the fire of our “Pentecost day” burns into our souls
a new courage
and a new zeal
we too will be moved
into action…

Then, we must all leave through the doorway of our UPPER ROOMS
and return back into the Cosmos,
each one of us  carrying a scroll -
a message of some ‘good news’
that is our unique personal mission in and for the world.

There is a coming-in and a going-out that has become part of the balance and rhythm of our life of prayer.
